Roadkill

Between 1997-1998 I used to work for The Canberra Times and The Chronicle doing advertising photography. I earned more more in petrol than in the actual hourly rate of $14.36. I had to drive my green Datsun Stanza to businesses all around Canberra to create an alluring image of their business for advertorials in the paper.

During this time I noticed a proliferation of roadside memorials. I took my Mamiya RZ 67 with me in the boot and took a polaroid whenever I saw one. I revisited these memorials twenty years later.

I do find it odd that memorials would be placed at the point where someone came to their death, but I haven’t had a family member die like that, so who am I to wonder.
